Who abuses animals?

Cruelty and negligence cross social and geographical boundaries and reports suggest that animal abuse in common in both rural and urban areas.

  1. Intentional abuse to animals should be strongly correlated to other crimes, including violence against people

  2. Serious animal neglect (such as hoarding) is often an indicator of people who are in need of social or mental health services

  3. Investigations suggest that serious offenders of animal abuse are men under age 30 and those involved in animal hoarding are more likely women aged over 60

Most Common Victims

The most common victims of animal abuse are reported to be cats, dogs, horses and livestock. Unfortunately, because of week laws against livestock only few cases are reported and very few are prosecuted.

Investigations suggest that animal abuse against livestock escalates in factory farm industries.

There are appr. 70 million pet dogs and 74.1 million pet cats are assaulted by 20 men and women per minute (an average of around 10 million a year)

In one survey, 71 percent of domestic violence victims confesses that their abusers also target pets

In a study of families investigated under child abuse, researchers observed 88 percent of animal abuse occured in families scrutinised under child abuse.

Human Predation

Human beings are often called as 'apex predators'. Because of our unique skill set, human beings can easily dominate animals. The burning question is should we do this? -- answer is no.

We often take away their agency and often end up nothing but a food of our plate. Sometimes we prey on animals without a desire to eat them. Fur farming industry is best example

"Calvin Klein and 16 other international fashion brands imposed a ban on animal fur products to fight against the innocent lives"

People who participate in animal cruelty don't have horns on top of their heads nor they don't have twirl in their mustaches. Instead they look like your neighbours, your friend, your teacher or your boss. If we care only about human beings, we look animals in distorted lens.
