1. Puppy Mills
A mass breeding facility that produces puppies for sale. Puppy mills is one of the largest commercial dog breeding facilities that emphasis more on the profit than animal health. In these mills, puppies are plagued with illness like heart and kidney disease because of the poor conditions they are kept in. It is estimated that in America, every year 2.11 million puppies are sold from these puppy mills and around 3 million puppies are died due due to a scarcity of adoptive measures.
2. Gadhimai Festival
Gadhimai festival is a sacrificial ritual held every 5 years at Gadhimai temple in Bariyarpur of Bara district in Nepal. In this festival thousand of animals like water buffaloes, goats, pigs, chicken, rats and pigeons are slaughtered just to please the Goddess of Power. This festival had 265 year old history but thankfully banned this year.
But the cruelty suffered by animals over the years will haunt any animal lover.
3. Greyhound Hunting
Every year thousands of young and healthy greyhound are killed because these dogs lack racing potential and have been injured while racing this lacking the competitiveness.
4. Genetic Manipulation
Genetic manipulation (manipulation of animal genes through biotechnology) has escalated drastically over the years. This manipulation is done to animals to increase their productivity and growth etc., but it significantly impacts the overall health of the animal. Broiler Chickens (chicken specifically made to increase meat production) have trouble walking due to genetic manipulation.
5. Dog Fighting
Today dog fighting has become prevalent in Asia and it is a source of entertainment. Nowadays dog fighting is reported in suburban, urban and rural settings of India with dogs like Pitbulls and Bully Kutta mainly used in dog fights.
6. Fur Farms
In US, more than 50% of Fur comes from China where there is no penalty for animal cruelty. The animals are raised in unbearably cramped and run-down cages in fur farms.
7. Animal Hoarding
Animal Hoarding is the most infamous form of animals cruelty, hoarding if affecting thousands of animals (mostly dogs and cats) in communities worldwide. It is estimated that in US, around 900 to 2000 new cases are reported every year with 250000 animals falling to victims.
8. Laboratory Experiments on Animals
Experiments on animals is also a cruelty that is happening all over the world. Over 100 millions of animals like dogs, mice, rats, rabbits, cats, monkeys and birds are killed in laboratories for drugs, chemicals, food and fashion.
Apart from the above horrific animal cruelties, China also celebrates Yulin festival, a ritual where dogs are killed and eaten in Yulin as a part of sacrificial ritual. In this festival, it is also reported that people also steal others pet dogs and kill them for food.
